We Need A Miracle

Zechariah had the cardiac catheterization yesterday and we received news we were not ready to hear...I don't know any parent that would be ready to hear it. (I will try to put it in simple terms.)

The issue that has been a mystery since Zechariah had open-heart surgery 4 years ago is what is causing his elevated pressures in his heart. So we went into the Cardiac Cath hoping to find answers and something that they could do to help Zak.

 Instead what we heard was that because of Zak being born with Critical Aortic Stenosis, the leaking of the valve after the 2 valvo plasties, and the extended time that he was on the heart and lung machine when he had the Ross Procedure done, his heart is weak. All of these things combined have put to much pressure on his little heart so his heart muscle is weakened and no longer relaxes properly. Thus causing the elevated pressures. This is what the Dr.’s told us is the beginning of heart failure.

The Dr.’s also told us that there is no know medicine to help him because he is still acting really healthy. We can only wait. As he gets sicker there is a drug that can be administered daily through an IV. And another thing is be prepared to have him go through a heart transplant.

This is all really heavy trying news to hear about your 5 year old Suddenly trying to decide which school he attends next year doesn’t seem to matter. Thankfully however we serve a God that is much bigger than this. We know that God has a plan for Zechariah. We also know that we don’t have to do this on our own but we can call on our friends and family to pray with us expecting for God to change these circumstances.

Lamentations 3:23-25 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him” The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Romans 4:20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Back to the Cardiac Cath Lab

Today we had our first scheduled Cardiology appointment for Zechariah in Minnesota. We were excited to meet our new cardiologist and hear our normal updates and find out that we need to come back for another check up in 6 months.
That unfortunately was not how the day’s events panned out. We did go to Zechariah’s cardiologist and met her and are excited to have her talk to us in a way that we can understand. However the report that we heard was the unexpected.
Ever since Zechariah’s open-heart surgery 4 years ago, Zak has had elevated pulmonary pressures. Today they were elevated higher than what we have come to know as his normal dangerously high. We were told that the only reasonable next step was to get him into the cardiac cath lab. I will explain what this means to the best of my understanding. Zechariah will be put under and then they insert a scope into his heart and take pictures and measurements of the inside of his heart to check out what can be causing this elevated pressures.
To our surprise they had an opening in the Cardiac Catherization Lab on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Basically we are calling all forces to pray that the doctors will have wisdom on how to take care of Zechariah.
God is so faithful. He brings us his incredible peace and takes care of us through anything. We know that we aren’t in this alone but God is our strong tower. God loves Zechariah more than I ever could. He has incredible plans for him.
So anyway we are just asking you to join with us and pray. Ultimately that God would touch Zak’s heart and heal him and also for wisdom for the doctors and for Scott and I on what the best way to move forward on the care for our precious little man.Blessings we will keep you updated, as we know more.
